The case interview is only one element of the interview
process, but often creates the most anxiety. The following tips
are meant to help you approach the interview with confidence and
poise.
Industry-specific experience is desirable, not necessary.
The case is meant to test how you analyse a business problem,
not how much you know about a particular industry.
Understand the problem. Ask for clarification or
additional information on points that are unclear.
Be candid about what you do not know. A drive to learn is
more desirable than pretending to know what you do not know.
Use logic. Break the problem down into its logical parts
and describe your approach to the problem before diving into the
key issues.
Think of the big picture. When presented with a case,
focus on the key issues, not a list of all the potential issue
and problems. Do not only address the problems with which you
are comfortable.
Choose the right path. The interviewer will leave the discussion
open-ended. Focus on value to lead your business intuition.
Be results-oriented. The interviewer will focus on a key
area and ask how you would implement your solution. The
interviewer may present a difficult situation to discover how
you would achieve results.
